Kempten’s weekly market

The weekly market takes places on Wednesdays and Saturdays on Hildegardplatz. Around 50 market stalls offer goods from Kempten, the Allgäu region, Lake Constance, Italy and the world, inkluding seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheese, fish and cured meats, home-made pasta, plants, honey and many more delicacies. Plus, you simply must sample the regional freshly prepared delicacies at one of the many food stalls on the market.

A small but excellent farmers’ market is held in the town once a week as part of Bavaria’s ‘Initiative Bauernmärkte’. Every friday (except on public holidays and subject no change), seasonal and regional delicacies, from stone oven-baked products to the rustic ‘Kässpatzen’ van are waiting for you around the Anna-Schwegelin-Brunnen water fountain on Residenzplatz.

Christmas market at Rathausplatz Kemtpen

Kempten’s Christmas Market

One of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the Allgäu region throws open its gates every year in the weeks running up to Christmas on the old town’s historic Rathausplatz.

The festively decorated stalls provide excellent ideas for presents like cribs, candles, ceramics, jewellery and glassware, wooden toys and Christmas decorations, as well as many more products. Your taste buds won’t be left out either. There are Christmas biscuits and roasted chestnuts on offer, as well as crepes, mulled wine, fruit punch and lots more delicacies. Festive Kempten is definitely worth a visit.

Funfair and traders’ market

Twice a year, a range of stalls and fairground rides including a merry-go-round and bumper cars pitch up at the centrally located Königsplatz at the Kathreinemarkt and the Himmelfahrtsmarkt in Kempten. Candy floss and popcorn are always popular treats. This fun-filled outing is perfect for the whole family.

A three-day traders’ market is held at the same time with about 80 stalls spread around the centre of Kempten. Household goods, accessories, clothing and presents are all on offer in the Zumsteinwiese field, across the Stadtpark towards the pedestrian zone.

A bargain lover’s paradise for browsing and bartering on flea markets at various dates at the ice stadium as well as on the premises of the Allgäuhalle. Arriving, parking and getting around

To get to your vacation in Kempten there are numerous options, because the city is excellently connected. It is located directly on the A7 highway, has an eastern railway station and a main train station and Memmingen Airport is not far away. The two long-distance bike paths, the Allgäu and Iller bike paths, intersect in Kempten, making the region easy to explore by bike.
