Christmas Market Kempten
The smell of punch and deliciously roasted almonds, people wrapped up warm in thick winter coats, coloured lights at small stalls – it must be Christmas market time! The Christmas market Kempten takes place annually on the centrally located Rathausplatz.

Kempten’s Crib magic

What would Christmas in Kempten be without cribs? During the Christmas market they play an important role and are on display at various locations in town

– in particular around the historic Town Hall.

Life size cribs

The Allgäu sculptor and artist Robert Liebenstein has created a very special nativity scene that adorns Kempten's town hall in the run-up to Christmas: hand-carved, almost life-size nativity scene figures made of Swiss stone pine delight many visitors every year.

The beautiful Bründl Crib

Bründl crib

Adolf Bründl worked on a nativity scene for decades and expanded it year after year. The famous Bründl crib counts more than 200 figures and animals and can be visited on Sundays and holidays (December until the end of January) in the crypt of the Basilica of St. Lorenz. In the center is depicted the birth of Christ, surrounded by various scenes. Adolf Bründl bequeathed the baroque nativity scene to the "Unterillertaler Kempten" association.

Small boutiques, traditional family businesses, well-known fashion houses and the large shopping center Forum Allgäu Kempten alternate in the center of Kempten.
Regional products such as cheese, beer, handicrafts or traditional costumes are offered in various shops as well as at the Kempten weekly market. This takes place every Wednesday and Saturday at Hildegardplatz. For a little break in between, cozy cafés or rustic inns invite you to stop by.
