KEMPTEN‘S MARKETS

Regional & culinary

Kempten’s weekly market

The weekly market is held on Hildegardplatz. Twice weekly, about 70 traders from Kempten, the Allgäu region, Lake Constance, Italy and the world offer seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheese, fish and cured meats, home-made pasta, plants, honey and many more delicacies in the centre of the town. Plus, you simply must sample the regional freshly prepared delicacies at one of the many food stalls on the market.

Farmers’ market

A small but excellent farmers’ market is held in the town once a week as part of Bavaria’s ‘Initiative Bauernmärkte’. Seasonal and regional delicacies, from stone oven-baked products to the rustic ‘Kässpatzen’ van are waiting for you around the Anna-Schwegelin-Brunnen water fountain on Residenzplatz.

Street-Food-Market

The Allgäu Street Food Market is as diverse as it is delicious. Your culinary journey kicks off with the arrival of the stylish food truck on Hildegardplatz, offering a taste of some of the region’s the finest delicacies. Alongside Allgäu specialities there are also international dishes and beverages on offer. Colourful cocktails, delightful desserts and of course classic children’s food round off this street-food adventure.

Kempten’s Christmas Market

One of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the Allgäu region throws open its gates every year in the weeks running up to Christmas on the old town’s historic Rathausplatz.

The festively decorated stalls provide excellent ideas for presents like cribs, candles, ceramics, jewellery and glassware, wooden toys and Christmas decorations, as well as many more products. Your taste buds won’t be left out either. There are Christmas biscuits and roasted chestnuts on offer, as well as crepes, mulled wine, fruit punch and lots more delicacies. Festive Kempten is definitely worth a visit.

Funfair and traders’ market

Twice a year, a range of stalls and fairground rides including a merry-go-round and bumper cars pitch up at the centrally located Königsplatz at the Kathreinemarkt and the Himmelfahrtsmarkt in Kempten. Candy floss and popcorn are always popular treats. This fun-filled outing is perfect for the whole family.

A three-day traders’ market is held at the same time with about 80 stalls spread around the centre of Kempten. Household goods, accessories, clothing and presents are all on offer in the Zumsteinwiese field, across the Stadtpark towards the pedestrian zone.

Flea market

A bargain lover’s paradise for browsing and bartering on flea markets at various dates at the ice stadium as well as on the premises of the Allgäuhalle. Dedicated flea markets are a key date in every girl’s diary. Trendy clothes, jewellery, handbags and retro, branded and designer pieces are just a small selection of the wide range on offer.

Bookworms and lovers of literatures can look forward to the regular book flea market. Leaf through all genres and be inspired for your next reading adventure.
